One person, plain answers

The plan that fits you starts with what you ask me

Advantage plans, drug plans and supplement policies each pull your costs and your doctor list in a different direction. I sit with those differences until you can say out loud why one card beats the rest.

About my work

Medicare, the way I explain it

Most people reach me at 65, though some arrive earlier through a disability or a lasting health condition. The first thing I draw out is the shape of it: separate parts, each one paying a different kind of bill.

Then come the plan choices stacked over those parts, and that is where the real questions land on me: which doctors stay, how the pharmacy treats you, and what still comes out of your own money.

Where each part picks up the bill

Part A

Hospital Care

The part I point to for admitted hospital stays, skilled nursing, hospice and certain aide visits at home.

Part B

Medical Services

The part carrying your doctor visits, outpatient care, lab work, equipment and a long list of screenings.

Part C

Medicare Advantage

One private plan handing you Part A and Part B together, and often the drug coverage as well.

Part D

Prescription Drugs

Private drug plans priced from their own medicine lists, which is why I read yours line by line.

When you can sign up

Your dates follow the life you already have

  • Turning 65

Your first window opens around your 65th birthday and stays open for a run of months on either side of it.

  • Still working at 65

A job plan on your card changes what I tell you to do now and what can safely wait. How many people your employer covers matters here.

  • The yearly review

Between October 15 and December 7 I reopen the file for anyone already on Medicare so the year ahead gets a fresh look.

How my Medicare help works

Four steps, no pressure

Step 01

Tell Me The Basics

Your age, the medicines you take and the doctors you would rather keep hold of.

Step 02

See Them Side By Side

I set your choices side by side, so costs, networks and drug lists sit in view.

Step 03

Ask Me Anything

Ask me about plans, costs or timing and get an answer before anything moves on.

Step 04

Decide When Ready

Enroll when it feels right, or sit with it a while longer. The timing is yours.

In their own words

What they told me after they picked

I thought every plan looked the same until the differences were laid out for me. Now I know what my card covers and what it does not.

Marlene Whitfield

My worry was losing the doctor I have seen for years. That question got answered first, well before anyone mentioned a premium to me.

Curtis Alvarado

The drug list mattered most to me. Every prescription I take was checked against the plan first, so there were no surprises later on.

Yvette Sandoval

I was still working past 65 and had no idea what to do. The timing was explained to me clearly, so nothing slipped past any deadline.

Harold Brennan

Every question I asked got a real answer instead of a sales pitch. Not once did I feel pushed to pick something on the very same day.

Dolores Pham

I turned up with a folder of letters I could not follow. I now know which parts of it applied to me and which ones I could set aside.

Medicare questions

The things people ask me most

Not always. If a job you or your spouse still hold is covering you, I can usually show you how to wait without paying for it later. With nothing else covering you, every month you wait buys a charge that never leaves your premium.

An Advantage plan takes Part A and Part B and runs them through one private plan with its own network. A supplement moves the opposite way: Original Medicare stays yours and the policy covers the slice Medicare hands back to you. I cannot set you up with both.

On Original Medicare, any provider who takes Medicare can see you. On an Advantage plan the answer lives in that year's network list, so I look your doctors up in the directory myself before you commit.

Every drug plan prints a formulary, meaning the medicines it will pay for and the tier that sets your share. Read me the labels on your bottles and I will price each one against the plans you can join, pharmacy by pharmacy.
